3 Tips to Protecting Your Dog During the Summer Heat

With the summer months coming upon us it is important to remember that if you are feeling hot so is your dog under all that fur. The heat poses the same danger to your dog as it does to humans and they can fall victim to heat stroke before you even realize it. Here are three suggestions on how you can protect your dog this summer from summer heat related illness.

Keep your dog in the shade as much as possible especially during the hottest hours between 10 AM and 2 PM. There is still plenty of sun before and after those hours to have them chase around the yard after toys.
Provide plenty of water both inside and outside of the house. If you plan on spending time outside with your dog always have a water bowl out there that is filled with cold water. You can even throw in a few ice cubes to help cool down your pup.
Do not leave your dog in your car or anywhere that the sun is beating down on. Every year pet owners leave their dogs "just for a second" in their car as they run somewhere to complete an errand. If you plan on leaving your dog at home while you run out also make sure you leave your air conditioning on at a reasonable temperature.
