With the fad of purchasing a Bichon Frise pup growing, it is extremely
important for people to understand and truly be prepared for what they
will get once they bring that puppy home. While Bichon Frise puppies
are incredibly cute and cuddly, they can be quit a handful if not taken
care of properly. Even if you feel that you are well prepared because
you have raised dogs before, you must know that this breed is different
from any other and they require certain things.
It is that they have a mind all of their own and are often known for
being slightly stubborn and only wanting to do what they want to do.
And this is a trait that will carry with them all through their adult
years so it better be something that you can learn to either overcome
or work around. It is very important that you do not let your pup walk
all over you so that order can be maintained in the home.
The one thing that commonly makes people turn and run the other
way when considering adopting a Bichon Frise pup is the fact that it is
so hard to potty train. Because it can take an extra long time there
could be messes that are left from the dog, which can actually cost you
money if carpet is destroyed. But it is not that the dog is not
trainable, it just takes a little more time than with most other breeds.
So when you first bring home your new family member, potty
training may be the first thing you want to get started on. Try not to
let setbacks upset you too much, as that is a natural thing no matter
what type of breed you are dealing with. Just give the love and support
a child would need when potty training and you will be on your way to a
successfully potty trained dog.
Even though most people would laugh at this and consider it common
sense, you would be surprised how many people really and truly need to
read this. Never hit, spank, spit at, yell at or otherwise abuse your
Bichon Frise pup whether it is emotional or physical, abuse is abuse
and is against the law.
It is much more exciting, fun and rewarding to have your pup love
you and to respect you as you will get much better behavior from a dog
that respects you instead of fear you.
Make sure that you are always thinking of your pup when training
and always question yourself if what you are doing, saying or teaching
is the best benefit of the pup.
Think twice before you ever speak in anger and always try to talk to your pet in a loving way.
