Getting a dog from an American Bulldog rescue is a really good idea. Although unless you prepare yourself for what you are getting into it can be quite a shock. In the first few weeks after you bring home your American Bulldog you need to be prepared for some rough times that can also last for awhile. Always keep in mind that you are dealing with a dog that has been through difficult times and events that have placed a lasting effect on the dog. Also by the time many dogs are rescued they are usually adults and can be highly disturbed which makes the situation a lot more difficult. Just remember that you and the Bulldog may not get along right away. The Bulldog is very stubborn and dominant by their nature so they won't ready respond to what you say. If the dog has had very bad experiences and training in the past then you could end up with a Bulldog that is very badly trained and will take awhile before they will work with you for training purposes.

It can be very challenging to try and train or housebreak an adult Bulldog from an American Bulldog rescue. Sometimes you may even feel like your Bulldog rescue is a completely hopeless case. Although it is important that you never give up on your adopted Bulldog, just remember what the dog has likely been through.

Considering this you can easily understand why they react the way they do. Considering prior conditions is even an excellent way to learn which techniques to better train the pet since average training methods may not work for some Bulldog rescues.

Always keep in mind that you are giving the dog a second chance at life in a sense and once you give up they will have to go to another home.

It is difficult to find homes for dogs that have been surrendered twice. Therefore, the dog can end up spending the rest of their life in a dog pound or kennel. Keeping this in mind will give you the motivation to keep striving to train your American Bulldog rescue.

Eventually your American Bulldog rescue will come to trust you, especially after they realize that you are the only remaining hope in their life. As a result they will start to love you just as much as you love them. This can also be considered one of the main benefits you have by adopting an American Bulldog rescue. Once the dog realizes that they have been adopted into a house with an owner that is going to take proper care of them then they will be forever grateful and loyal to you.

Although it is important to know when you should ask for help. If you find your American Bulldog rescue is too difficult to train then you should think about enrolling them in dog training classes to get help. It is always best to leave the training of truly difficult dogs to the professionals.

Professional individuals should only train truly difficult dogs. There are both advantages and disadvantages to American Bulldog rescue, although they are about even so you need to rely on your own instincts when you choose to adopt an American Bulldog rescue.
