Pure breeds are defined as "of or belonging to a recognized strain established by breeding individuals of unmixed heritage over many generations." Purebred dogs are extremely popular and are the only dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Association (AKC). These dogs have a documented ancestry, or pedigree, as well as specific characteristics of the breed they represent. Pure breeds are selectively bred, or inbred, to retain and strengthen their genetic traits.

The Bichon Frise dog is originally from the Mediterranean and is one of the Barbet or Water Spaniel breed of dogs that were further divided into four separate categories such as the Bichon Maltais. One of the endearing characteristics of the Bichon Frise is its happy outlook that has made it a worthwhile companion when traveling to different parts of the world, and at one time the Bichon Frise even was used as a bargaining chip and traded in different parts of the world by sailors.

Pugs are great dogs for many reasons but namely because they are
affectionate, gentle, and loving. They make great pets even when there
are young children involved and when they are trained properly they are
very obedient and well behaved. They are perky, small dogs that have a
short coat and a cute inquisitive face. They are also extremely smart.
