My friend Marley

Posted by mrmckeen in PuppymovieMarleydog

mrmckeen

So a new Christmas movie is on the way, "My friend Marley".   I guess it is based on the book but since no one has seen the movie it's hard to tell just how true it will be to the story.

Has anyone hard anything about the movie?  I would assume since it is coming out at Christmas it doesn't end with a sad message (I really don't want to see something where the dog dies at the end of the movie or something).

I must admit I haven't read the book so maybe that would give me a clue about what might happen!  Do you plan to see the movie?  Do any of you have your own "Marley" story to share?

Dogs killed in police raid...

Barkley

I am normally very supportive of the police department.  I believe they perform a job that goes thankless most of the time.  At worst, many people just don't like the police which is just plan wrong.  However in this case I have some serious questions.

The big trend in pets now - designer pets??

Lucy

The big trend now is not getting that purebred Golden Retriever, it's getting a new hybrid dog like a Malkie (Yorkshire terrier and Maltese).

With the summer months upon us, everyone is feeling the pain shedding. After a winter long build up of fur to stay warm, your pups are trying to cool off and lose any extra hair. In addition to heat, other summer time issues can cause your dog to shed more than usual. Here are some hints to help control shedding.

Firm plans to clone dogs beginning June 2008!

Posted by Barkley in dogsdogadoption

Barkley

News reports say that a firm in California, BioArts, is planning to hold an auction to clone 5 dogs.

The starting bid is $100,000 and they have named the project "Best Friends Again". Not sure I fully understand this and why people would spend that kind of money to "clone" their dog.

Wild Mushrooms

Posted by Casey Quinn in PuppyPoisonMushroomdog healthdog

Every day people walk their dogs into parks, along other people's lawns and into the woods. In those areas, nature runs wild and random.  Things may be lurking in the grass.  Over the weekend we had an experience that I thought would good be to share.

Our weimaraner was running around the yard and grazing as usual on every shard of grass, weed, and stick he could find. Once we let him out, we will generally go on and do our own thing, when he wants to be let in, he lets us know by barking or scratching at the door.

After a while, I looked out my window and saw him with something white in his mouth. I couldn't figure out what it could be so I ran out to see what he had gotten into this time. He had mushrooms. In the far corner of my yard a handful of mushrooms had grown up over the last week when we had some rain. He had snacked on most of them.

Step away from the countertop.... please?

You can never really appreciate all the small things (no pun) until you have something to compare it to. Owning a jack russell for years, it may bark alot, it may be a little crazy and dig up my yard but it does not get on my counter tops.

When we brought home our Weimreimer puppy, it was 8 weeks old. Cute, loveable, other than the house breaking, it was kind of like having another small dog.... but then... it kept growing, and growing.

Now it is tall. With it's monster long legs, it uses it to get at whatever you dont want it to. Nothing is sacred or safe from the wrath of a weim puppy. The breed is supremly curious, energetic and have the natural abilities (athletic and height) to get at everything and anything. On top of it all, it has an amazing sense of smell. You can not hide your food, you can not store it high enough, it will find it.
