Our son has just adopted his first pet, a Betta fish. The folks at the pet store told us it would be easy for him to care for (he is 5) and that the fish would be very happy in a fish bowl that I guess holds about a gallon of water and some gravel.
The fish does seem happy, but after only two days the water has started to get cloudy. The fish bowl is in sun most of the day for warmth.
Any ideas about what we can do to clear the water up?

You might want to try some of the Betta water treatment you can purchase at a local pet store.
One of the articles here on the site suggests that you change the water every 3 days but we can usually go a week. You also need to let the water sit for at least 24 hours before you move the fish.

Two things to consider... I wouldn't leave the little guy in the sun all day. Also it sounds like you may be feeding him too much. They only need about three grains of food twice a day...
