Christmas time and pet adoptions

So Christmas is really just right around the corner (only eight weeks or so).  Its amazing how fast the years go by.  During this time a lot of people decide to get a new puppy or kitten as a gift.  If you think that's a good reason to give one you're wrong!

Pets require a lot of love and care (and they can be expensive).  I really appreciate the thought of giving a pet as a gift to your kids but you really should step back and make sure you understand what you are about to do, especially if you have never had a pet before.

You become the sole person responsible for the health and welfare of that animal.  They will provide you with years and years of unconditional love but in return, they need your love and caring.  That means trips to the vet for regular exams, buying the proper food, and providing the love and exercise your individual pet requires.

January ends up being one of the biggest months at your local rescue group or animal shelter.  Why?  Because so many people realize that getting a pet is a much bigger responsibility than they thought.  Also many, many pets are just abandoned on the street or in the woods.

Please consider everything before you get a pet.  If you're ready and truly understand then go for it!  But if not, please don't.
