Justice Department wins battle for girl and her service dog!
The US Justice Department won a court battle allowing the daughter of a family to keep their apartment even though the apartment owner insisted that the "No Pets" policy also applied to their "service dog".
The girl needs the dog due to her disability. The US government sued based on the "Fair Housing Act" which does not allow a landlord to discriminate due to, among other things, disability.
We at BarkleyAndPaws are glad to see this verdict. Service dogs are not like typical pets and the girl needs this animal for her wellbeing. In our opinion the landlord was not being fair in his treatment of this family.
The landlord will have to pay all attorney fees as well as a $102,000 fee to compensate the renters.
