Last weekend we put a deposit in a new baby hedgehog. The pet store was expecting several to be delivered from a breeder, and we wanted one to replace our Paulie, who recently passed away. So my boyfriend, Pat, has been bugging me all week. "Did they call about the hedgehog yet?" "No, they didn't." Just this morning, he asked me, "While I was in the shower, did anyonecall about the hedgehog?" "No, no one called." So then we went to my parents' house to drop off some stuff, I got out of the car and walked away, and my phone rang. It was the pet store about the hedgehog! I told Pat when I got back, and he was hysterical laughing. Anyway, we couldn't bring one home today, but we did get to go and meet them and pick one out. We got another little standard-colored boy. He is so friendly and curious! He wasn't scared of us at all, even a little bit. Most of them were puffing and balling up, but ours and one of the albinos were friendly and sweet as anything. He is our Christmas present to ourselves, so if we picked a boy, he was going to be Burl (as in Burl Ives) and if we picked a girl, she would be Holly. So Burl it is! He comes home on Friday, and we can go visit him and play with him anytime we want to all week. His cage will be all ready, with a new wheel and new toys and all. We're so excited!
I was surprised, the girl who was taking care of the baby hedgehogs in the pet store actually seemed to know what she was doing. I rarely see that around here. I was impressed and pleased! Usually they don't care too much about anything but the sale.
I'll post another update when the baby is home, and some pics too!
