Highend pet store accused of selling pets from puppy mills

News broke today that a highend pet store in Los Angeles, California alledgedly was knowingly selling puppies from puppy mills to some of Hollywood's elite buyers. Apparently the buyers were unaware of the practice and the store alledgedly hid or otherwise did not disclose the information.

The LA Animal Services department shut down the store after holding a news conference and called the practice of selling from puppy mills "unconscionable".

Unfortunately the store can easily reopen by just buying another permit. While there are no laws prohibiting the running of puppy mills or buying a dog from one, animal advocates say puppy mills are inhumane and a cruel breeding practice.

We at BarkleyAndPaws continue to encourage our members and vistors to adopt their pets. Wheither it is a cat or dog, adopting is a wonderful way of saving a life and bring home a truly unique pet.

You can read more about this story from the LATimes .
