The American Rottweiler is a black dog with tan markings behind his eyes, cheeks, chest and muzzle. It has a medium length coat that is straight and coarse and has a double undercoat. These dogs are very possessive with their owners and their possessions and will make wonderful guard dogs. Their history goes back hundreds of years when they marched with the Romans over the Alps pulling their carts.

They can normally be found on the Internet, through recommendations from other Rottweiler owners, through your veterinarian and from the American Kennel Club. These breeders should be socializing their puppies with their own families to get them customized to humans.

They should be able to answer all of your questions about the breed and will normally turn the tables on you and ask you many questions to see if you are ready to own an American Rottweiler. There are German Rottweiler breeders and American Rottweiler breeders and if you have done your homework sufficiently, you will know the distinct difference between the two. Having a discussion with the breeder about the two types of Rottweilers is a good idea.

These dogs make great pets and because of their size will become excellent guard dogs. They are not aware of their size and when their humor comes through it is quite silly.
