Where Pet Hair Accumulates Most in Your Home

Thanks to your pet, your home is full of love, laughter, and happy memories! But it’s also full of a whole lot of pet hair.

Pet hair is one of the less glamorous parts of pet parenthood. It gets everywhere and can be difficult to clean up. If you need help with all the pet hair around your home, here are some of the most common places where it accumulates and what you can do to clean it.

The Couch

Your couch is one of the top spots for pet hair to gather, especially if your pet loves to lounge on it. You can use a vacuum with an upholstery attachment to remove the hair. A lint roller or a rubber glove wiped over the surface also picks up fur effectively.

The throw pillows on your couch are also a magnet for pet hair because of their soft texture. You can give your throw pillows a professional-quality clean by putting them in the dryer on a no-heat setting with a dryer sheet. This will loosen the hair, which you can then vacuum off.

Rugs and Carpets

Rugs and carpets trap pet hair deep within their fibers. A vacuum with strong suction and a beater bar will suck the fur right out in most cases. But for extra stubborn hair that’s embedded, you may need to use a carpet rake, which has stiff bristles designed to pull up deeply embedded fur from the base of the carpet.

Your Bed

If your pet sleeps with you, your bed is another hotspot for hair. Wash your bedding regularly in hot water to remove pet hair and dander. Between washes, a quick pass with a lint roller over your comforter and pillows can help keep the fur under control.

Pet Beds

Naturally, your pet’s own bed is going to be covered in hair. Most pet beds have removable covers that you can toss in the washing machine. Before you wash it, run a vacuum over the cover to remove as much loose hair as possible.

Clothing

Pet hair has a special talent for clinging to clothes, even the clean ones in your closet. Keep a lint roller near your wardrobe for a quick de-furring before you head out. For clothes that are already in the wash, adding a half-cup of white vinegar can help relax the fabric’s fibers, which releases more hair.

A Fur-Free Home

Knowing where pet hair accumulates most in your home—and how to best clean it in that spot—can help you tackle it more effectively. Check all these areas thoroughly and give them a good clean to keep pet hair from building up too much!
