Beware of These Toxic Ingredients in Commercial Dog Foods!

The pet food industry has a net worth of over $24 million. Your dog is the love of your life, and you want to make sure they are receiving everything they need to live a long and healthy life. Here are a few food ingredients you need to be aware of that may be in your dog’s food.

Carrageenan

Carrageenan is a pet food ingredient that can cause intestinal inflammation with the possibility of leading to cancer. Small and large amounts of this ingredient can be fatal. Carrageenan is an alarming ingredient because research reveals carrageenan is found in more than 50 percent of canned pet food.

Ethoxyquin

Ethoxyquin is a common ingredient found in dog food and is used as a preservative. Studies show that many examined dogs suffer from chronic renal disease. Chronic renal disease affects nine out of every 1,000 dogs. Ethoxyquin leads to cancer of the spleen, liver, skin, and stomach. Other issues that can occur include blindness, leukemia, and immune deficiency syndrome.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol can lead to the development of cancerous lesions within the intestines. It is a synthetic liquid that absorbs water. Propylene Glycol is used as a food additive in dog food. This substance can cause intestinal blockage.

Food Dyes

Food dyes can cause a dog to experience an allergic reaction, cancer, organ damage, and hyperactivity. Food dyes are added to dog food to imitate the actual color of vegetables, fruit, and meat.

Corn Syrup and Corn

A lot of pet owners have common misconceptions about corn. Corn is not good for dogs because they cannot digest it. Corn syrup is another ingredient that is not healthy for your dog. This syrup is put in dog food to sweeten it. Corn syrup makes dogs gain weight, leads to hyperactivity, changes in rational behavior, and diabetes. One in every 400-500 dogs has diabetes. 70 percent of the dogs suffering from diabetes are female, and 30 percent are male.

By-Products

There is a lot of talk about by-products, and a lot is misunderstood about this ingredient. The internal remains of an animal are known as by-products. By-products can lead to disease within the organ and tissues and could cause tumors.

Sorbitol

Sorbitol should be avoided at all costs. It is an artificial sweetener that is found in many types of dog food. Dogs that consume foods that are excessively sweet can suffer from exhaustion and hyperactivity.
